Floods and Tidal Surges How are we affected

Flooding caused by extreme rain and tidal surges pose an enormous hazard to islands and cities across the nation. Within our lifetimes, we have observed a stark increase in flooding instances and severity, caused by the climate crisis.

Data from the NDMA speaks volumes. Over the past 5 years we have seen a drastic increase in reported flooding instances from just 2 floods in 2018 to 38 floods until November 2023.

Beyond the numbers, each incident highlights the vulnerability of our communities to these floods. Understanding the gravity of this situation is vital as we seek solutions to protect our islands and ensure a safer future for all Maldivians.
