Fundraising Initiative - Rakhine State Refugees 2017
On 06th September 2017, Maldivian Red Crescent Opened up the opportunity to donate funds for the Emergency Appeal by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) , to support communities from the Rakhin State of Myanmar seeking refuge in Bangladesh. The call for donation was opened from 06th September 2017 till 30th September 2017. MRC recevied MVR 7,064,555.37 (USD 458,142.37) as donations towards the Appeal. This remarkable colelctive effort by the Maldvian Community with significant support from local councils, businesses, Civil Society organizations and numerous concerned individuals.
The donation was utilized towards supporting aid efforts by the IFRC and Bangladesh Red Crescent Soceity focusing on the following sectors : Water, sanitation, food security and provision of medical services.
This support reached more than 433,000 people through Bangladesh Red Cross Society and other Partner National Societies. In December 2017, MRC Secretary General Aishath Noora made a visit to Cox’s Bazaar to observe the operations, and witnessed some of the amazing work that included efforts on water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), health, Psycho-Social Support, and relief distribution.

In December 2017 , a team from the Maldivian Red Crescent (Secretary General Aishath Noora Mohamed & Disaster Management Officer Sonath Abdul Sattar) traveled to Cox’s Bazar on a monitoring mission to observe and participate in the ongoing humanitarian relief efforts.
